“COME TO THE TREEHOUSE AND HANG-OUT WITH SOME OF OUR LITTLE FRIENDS…”

One of the many highlights of staying at the Air Castle, is being able to watch our neighbors from up close…and in this case you won’t get arrested…! This is Chuckles and he is a Fox Squirrel which is the most common variety in the area. He has been with us from the beginning and is very friendly. He also likes to come see you if you are up on either of the crow’s nests!

“SMOKEY THE SPEEDY ONE…”

Of all the many squirrels that come to the feeders a few times a day for a meal, this is Smokey. He is a little jumpy and very fast. He is a Gray Squirrel (or sometimes called Cat Squirrel), a little smaller and faster than the others. He has to stretch to reach the feeders, sometimes hanging on with only a couple claws on one paw…!

“BIG RED AND HIS MANY RELATIVES…”

Early in construction, we rescued Big Red when he was a little baby and put him back in his nest. Ever since we have installed the windows, he comes and taps on the windows many times a day to say "Hi"! One day he even came to the back door when I was not acknowledging him...he needed a refill for his feeder…!

“STEVEN TYLER, THE LADDER-BACKED WOODPECKER...!”

You will be lucky during your stay if you catch a glimpse of our favorite...and the original “head banger”.

“NIGHTLY VISITS TO OUR BUFFET FROM THE AREA WILD PIGS…”

Our corn feeder attracts many 4-legged animals including Wild Hogs and White Tail Deer. We even have a motion detector next to the feeder that rings a bell inside the treehouse. It alerts you to their presence so you can grab your camera and binoculars…!
